Report: Owusu-Koramoah's draft stock fell due to heart issue

Notre Dame linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah's fall out of the first round was one of the biggest surprises of the NFL draft.

Owusu-Koramoah, who theScore ranked 15th overall, was taken 52nd overall by the Cleveland Browns. However, there may be an explanation for his declining stock.

Many teams expressed concern over a heart issue that came up late in the process, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Despite doctors clearing him, it contributed to Owusu-Koramoah dropping to the second round.

Browns general manager Andrew Berry was happy to trade up to the middle of the second round to select the linebacker.

"I think we probably had a building of maybe 30 people all pacing together. We certainly did not expect him to be there when he was. We are fortunate he was and think he is going to add something to our team," Berry said.
