Seven people were charged for flouting public health regulations at a Hugs Over Mask rally in the forecourt of Hamilton City Hall on Sunday.
Hamilton police and bylaw officers responded to the forecourt where a small group gathered to protest COVID-19 restrictions at around 12 p.m.
Staff Sgt. Scott Galbraith said the gathering, which was cleared within the hour, garnered about nine people in attendance.
None were wearing face coverings.
Galbraith said seven protesters were issued a court summons under the Reopening Ontario Act, which carries a possible punishment of up to one year imprisonment or a fine up to $100,000.
