New produce shop opens on Barton Street
A new option for local, fresh vegetables and fruit has arrived on Barton Street.
Barton Lettuce, owned by Alexandra Sinclair and her husband, Matthew, opened its doors on May 1 and has since welcomed shoppers in the closely knit" Barton Village neighbourhood Sinclair also calls home.
We really understand the neighbourhood and it's been important to us to keep our produce as fresh and delicious as possible, but keep the price down too," she said. We want to make sure that we're accessible to everyone."
The next closest grocery store that would carry produce is the Food Basics at Barton and Mary streets, about a 10-minute walk away. Sinclair hopes that having closer options in the neighbourhood will help families, and make it possible to walk down the street to buy the ingredients that you need to cook your dinner."
It's Sinclair's first business venture after a year of planning. The shop, located at 337 Barton St. E., is gearing up to offer locally sourced seasonal favourites ahead of the summer: strawberries, rhubarb, asparagus, and fiddleheads.
It also carries non-dairy milks and popular products from Simcoe-based Jensen Cheese, including cheddar and halloumi.
