The New York Giants signed former first-round pick Kelvin Benjamin, the team announced Sunday.

While Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that the former Carolina Panthers wideout - who hasn't played since 2018 - will switch to tight end, Giants head coach Joe Judge said Friday that Benjamin won't have a set role.

"He's a big guy. He's always been a big receiver," Judge said. "He'll work receiver. He's working a little bit flex tight end as well. I wouldn't really pin him down to any one position at this point."

New York called Benjamin a receiver when announcing his signing.

Giants general manager Dave Gettleman drafted Benjamin while with the Panthers in 2014, but the 30-year-old failed to live up to expectations.

Benjamin recorded 168 catches for 2,424 yards and 18 touchdowns in three-and-a-half seasons with the Panthers before being traded to the Buffalo Bills midway through the 2017 campaign. The 6-foot-5, 245-pounder last played for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018.

The Giants also signed free-agent running back Corey Clement.
