'Actively ticketing and towing': You will have to pay to park at this popular Burlington destination on summer weekends
The City of Burlington has added a parking fee to the Beachway.
Drivers will be charged from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. until the end of September.
Users can pay through the HonkMobile application on their cellphones.Vito Tolone, director of transportation services, said the Beachway has become more popular and the city wants to ensure residents can use it safely.
We are introducing paid parking on weekends this summer to help manage the parking and traffic flow. We are still under a stay-at-home order from the province so we'd like to remind Beachway visitors to plan ahead and possibly consider coming back another time if the parking lot is full, or to park in an alternative location," said Tolone.
It is an hourly rate of $2.50 or a daily flat rate of $20 on the weekend. Users can scan the QR code or download the HonkMobile app. There is a transaction fee of $0.35 for each payment.
Last summer saw a record number of people arriving at the Beachway and the city using barricades, a drop-off zone and parking ambassadors to help manage the demand for parking.
Burlington representatives say they will be enforcing the rules.
Please avoid parking illegally - city bylaw officers will be actively ticketing and towing to further help manage parking and ensure safe traffic flow," said Tolone.
This year, especially those parking on Lakeshore Road shoulders and the grass boulevard over the pipeline, will be towed.
