does this hard drive eraser actually work?

I've found out that the only reliable way to destroy a hard drive if it's dead is to drill some holes in it. (Well, yeah, I guess I could smash it, but it's too messy and I might not succeed. No, I would not want to tear it open-. Too much trouble, mainly from the magnets.)
But I saw this device at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-...0&sr=8-29&th=1 . Does it actually work in wiping a dead hard drive, as some reviewers claim? I don't know if I would want to spend the money on it anyway, because this problem would give me an excuse to own a drill, which one probably should own...
