Hamilton public health is reporting two new COVID-19 deaths and one new outbreak Saturday.

Both deaths appear to be of Hamiltonians over the age of 80, according to The Spectator's records. Nothing more is known about their deaths, as public health no longer shares that information.

The latest deaths bring Hamilton's total number of people who have died with the virus to 378.

A new outbreak has been declared at Heritage Green Nursing Home in Stoney Creek. Two staff members have tested positive for the virus and at least one of the cases is the B.1.1.7 variant, which was first detected in the United Kingdom.

The latest outbreak comes less than a month after Hamilton public health issued a compliance order for the home after inspections allegedly found infection control breaches during a previous outbreak.

Outbreaks at Flamboro Technical Services, Green Collar Landscaping, a Barton Street East Tim Hortons and a construction site at Mount Albion Elementary School have all been declared over.

A suspected outbreak at the Hamilton Downtown Family YMCA Men's Residence was also removed from the city's online list.

There are currently 34 active outbreaks in Hamilton. The largest ongoing outbreak in the city is at the Rebecca Towers apartment complex, where 107 residents and three staff members have tested positive. One person has died.

Hamilton recorded 90 new cases of COVID-19 Saturday, with 19,989 total cases since the pandemic was declared last March.

Close to 900 of those cases remain active and close to 92 per cent are considered recovered. More than 1,370 Hamiltonians have been hospitalized with the virus.

Cases in retail

A staff member at Eric's No Frills in Waterdown has tested positive for COVID-19, according to Loblaw. The worker was last in the store on May 16.

An employee at Frank's No Frills on Rymal Road East in Hamilton has also been infected with the virus. The employee was last in the store on May 15, according to the company.

A worker at the Lowe's in Ancaster has tested positive for COVID-19. The worker's last shift was May 10, according to the company.
