What is the right way to install docker?

I want to install docker container on my computer. So on the base OS i install docker and in the docker container i install the main os, that i will use.
This means there will be two OSes running. What if i remove the desktop environment from the base OS, so there is no desktop. Will this save resources aka speed up my pc?
