Small boats carrying migrants across Channel hit record levels in May

Rising numbers come as Home Office staff warn of 20-hour shifts and delays in Covid testing
The number of small boat arrivals from northern France to UK reached record levels in May with 568 migrants crossing the Channel in the last four days of the month.
In the first four months of 2021, the number crossing - 2,108 - was more than double the figure for that period in 2020 - 896.
