Though Patrick Mahomes is still rehabbing from toe surgery, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback believes he's ready to get back on the field.

"If there was a game (today), I'd be able to play in it, I think," Mahomes said Thursday, according to Adam Teicher of ESPN.

He added: "I have to continue to rehab, continue to keep strengthening that stuff. But it's good to be able to get out there earlier than the schedule had me and be able to get some work in."

The 2018 NFL MVP underwent the procedure shortly after Super Bowl LV to repair a turf toe injury. He said in April that his recovery was "ahead of schedule."

Mahomes is already participating in the Chiefs' organized team activities. The 25-year-old says it's important for him to attend OTAs after missing them last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I know (the OTAs) are voluntary ... but we're able to experiment and not go extremely hard, but still be able to get some good work in and get the guys together, build that chemistry, and be a part of the team," he added, according to NFL.com's Kevin Patra.

Mahomes is 43-10, including the playoffs, since becoming Kansas City's starter in 2018. He's led the Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances and one title.
