Titans' Kevin Johnson retires after 6 seasons

The Tennessee Titans placed cornerback Kevin Johnson on the retired list Friday, signaling the end of his NFL career after six seasons.

Johnson signed a free-agent contract with the Titans in March after a one-year stint with the Cleveland Browns. The Houston Texans drafted him in the first round in 2015 following a distinguished career at Wake Forest.

The 28-year-old spent his first four pro seasons with Houston but saw injuries stall his development. He recorded the only interception of his career as a rookie, picking off former Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger in a 20-6 Texans victory.

Tennessee signed Johnson hoping he'd vie for a significant role in a thin secondary led by veteran newcomer Janoris Jenkins. Johnson started six contests for the Browns in 2020, doing most of his work in the slot.

Johnson, who also played one year for the Buffalo Bills, retires from the NFL with 65 career appearances - including 25 starts - and 22 pass breakups.
