Search underway for missing boy in Lake Erie

An 8-year-old boy has gone missing in the waters of Lake Erie.
At around 5:30 p.m. Saturday first responders were called for a missing person in the area of Cedar Drive at Turkey Point.
OPP Acting Sgt. Ed Sanchuk said in a twitter video at 10 p.m. that the Norfolk provincial police detachment, marine unit, aviation services, fire department, paramedics and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) out of Trenton Airforce Base responded to the missing person call.
Sanchuk posted an update Sunday morning at 9:15 a.m. that emergency responders have continued the search throughout the night.
The 8-year-old was seen swimming in the lake off of Cedar Drive, Sanchuk said.
That child abandoned the floating raft they were on and attempted to swim back to shore," he said.
Police were contacted when family was unable to locate their son," Sanchuk added.
The child is described as a male with long, dark, shoulder length hair. He's wearing a blue shirt with a multicoloured logo on the front and blue and white shorts.
Sanchuk said Sunday morning that the OPP underwater search and recovery unit were on the way to assist in the search.
