Hamilton recorded one new COVID-19 outbreak Saturday as daily cases continue to remain relatively low.

An outbreak involving a variant of concern was declared Friday at Cancord Inc. on Elgin Street, a manufacturer of rope and cordage products, after two staff members tested positive for coronavirus.

It's one of 14 active outbreaks in the city - the fewest in 2021 and a fraction of the 41 reported last month.

The steady drop in outbreaks is much the same with cases as the city's marked its 15th consecutive day with 100 or less new infections.

Public health reported 61 new COVID cases Saturday, up slightly from 51 reported Friday. The number of active cases increased to 469 from 467.

But the seven-day rolling case average now sits at 54 - down considerably from 164 on May 4, according to The Spectator's independent records.

A total of 20,816 people in Hamilton have tested positive for COVID-19 since the outset of the pandemic. About 94 per cent have recovered.
