The Hamilton police marine unit responded to seven rescue calls over the weekend, including several cases where people on inflatables were blown offshore.

No one was hurt in any of the incidents but police say they serve as a reminder to always be aware of conditions, including checking the weather, and wear safety equipment.

Out of the seven rescue calls, four were for people on inflatables and one was an inexperienced kayaker pushed out onto Lake Ontario from high winds, police said.

The marine unit also noted that there were multiple other incidents where people were found without life jackets or proper equipment.

Last June a family on an inflatable pink flamingo had to be rescued after floating 4 kilometres off shore.
