Police investigating drowning of teenaged boy in Halton Hills
Halton police say a teenaged boy has drowned in Halton Hills Friday evening (June 11).
Police say the drowning occurred around 5 p.m. in the Credit River near MacNab Park in Norval. The child, identified as a 14-year-old Brampton boy, was swimming with friends at the time, police said.
Witnesses reported to police the teen was with a group of youths who were jumping off the Adamson Street North bridge when the youth drowned. Police have located and notified next of kin for the teen.
The youth was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital, but "succumbed to his injuries," police said in a tweet.
Officers tweeted just after 5:30 p.m. that Adamson Sreet north of Noble Street in Norval has been closed.
"Asking motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area," police said.
Police aren't releasing the boy's name.
"Police remind the public and especially young people to be safe around the Region's waterways and pools, know your limits, play responsibly and respect the water," Halton police said in a news release Friday night.
