Hamilton police investigating Stipley neighbourhood homicide

Hamilton police are investigating the city's eighth homicide of the year.

In a tweet just before 10 p.m. Sunday, police said they are investigating a homicide near Barton Street East and Lottridge Street, just northwest of Tim Hortons field.

The tweet also said police were called to a disturbance at a residence. A male in his 50s was transported to hospital and pronounced dead," it added.

Police have yet to release further information.

Early Monday morning, a two-storey building at the northeast corner of Barton and Barnesdale Avenue North, one block west of Lottridge, was surrounded by yellow tape, as was an adjacent parking lot. Several police cruisers were parked in the area.

The major crime unit is investigating.
