LaFleur: Packers have only ‘one plan’ for training camp
There's no Plan B for the Green Bay Packers as training camp approaches.
Star quarterback Aaron Rodgers skipped voluntary practice and mandatory minicamp. There's no timetable as to when the reigning NFL MVP could return to the field.
Head coach Matt LaFleur is sticking to a single plan as the Packers prepare for training camp, with or without Rodgers.
"We'll have one plan," LaFleur said, according to team reporter Mike Spofford. "We've got what we feel is a pretty good blueprint in terms of how to get our guys ready to play.
"We feel confident with what we'll have in place with the guys."
Second-year quarterback Jordan Love received the majority of first-team reps this offseason. The 22-year-old is attempting to make up for lost time after not taking any preseason reps last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Jordan came in with the right mindset," LaFleur said. "Every rep for him is so critical. He's done a great job of embracing just the whole situation, embracing learning from every rep."
While Love continues to develop this offseason, the Packers are hopeful they can salvage their relationship with Rodgers.
The 37-year-old signal-caller led the Packers to a 13-3 record and passed for 4,299 yards last season. He also posted career highs in both touchdowns (48) and completion percentage (70%).
Green Bay has made it to the NFC Championship Game in each of the past two seasons and could be poised for another title run when the team reconvenes for training camp on July 27.
The potential of contending for another conference title has the coach excited for what's to come this fall.
"The challenge is can you re-create that magic that we've been able to the last couple years and become a close-knit, connected team with great player leadership? We're excited about what the future could hold," LaFleur said.
