Some installations are hard to find, even for the Terminal?

I installed Linux Mint the other day and I have been living in the terminal ever since...

One of several issues that stump me is the fact that I install something and then it never seems to appear anywhere. Some installations, like Zenmap, it goes where you think it would go, under "All Applications." That's a no-brainer, right? I mean, why doesn't EVERYTHING go there? In that list of ALL APPS you have GUIs, text editors like Nano, links to more software, etc. Then why on earth do I have to hunt for Gnome Control Center, for example, and there are several more I can't think of right now.

Is there a secret trick to find out where something is going to be found according to the category that the thing is?latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=ZQjdTe-Ok_E:trBFiBepwkM:F7zBnMy latest?i=ZQjdTe-Ok_E:trBFiBepwkM:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=ZQjdTe-Ok_E:trBFiBepwkM:gIN9vFwZQjdTe-Ok_E
