A 17-year-old Hamilton boy has been arrested in connection with the stabbing of another 17-year-old boy on the Mountain Tuesday afternoon.

The teen victim remains in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The accused faces charges of assault causing bodily harm and two counts of assault with a weapon. He was released on an undertaking and is expected to appear in court at a later date.

Emergency services were called to Billy Sherring Park, just off Acadia Drive near Upper Sherman Avenue, just after 3 p.m. June 29 for reports of a stabbing.

Police found the boy on scene suffering from obvious injuries. He was initially transported by paramedics to hospital with serious injuries, but his condition was soon upgraded to stable.

The stabbing is believed to be targeted, police said.

Part of the entryway to nearby St. Jean de Brebeuf Catholic Secondary School was cordoned off as part of the crime scene Tuesday.

Police confirmed some staff members of the high school gave first aid to the victim.

In a letter sent to parents the principal wrote that the victim was a student.

At this time, we are unaware if the student was at the school earlier in the day to return school items," read the letter, obtained by The Spectator. Please keep the student and his family in your thoughts and prayers."

The stabbing is being investigated by the Mountain criminal investigations branch.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Mountain patrol staff sergeant at 905-546-3886 or the Mountain criminal investigation branch at 905-546-8965.
