Hot and humid weather will welcome the first full week of July in Hamilton, prompting the city to activate cooling locations.

Monday and Tuesday could feel like 40 with humidity, according to Environment Canada in a heat warning issued at 3:15 p.m. Sunday.

Daytime highs in the city are expected to reach up to 34 C. Overnight lows of 21-23 C will offer little relief, the weather agency says.

Similar hot weather warnings were issued for Halton and Niagara regions as well as Wellington, Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk counties.

A cold front Tuesday is forecast to bring relief from the heat as well as thunderstorms to southern and southwestern Ontario.

Residents can look for sites identified with Cool Down Here" sign or find cooling locations as well as splash pads on an interactive map on hamilton.ca/heat.

The city warns that anyone experiencing signs of heat exhaustion - heavy sweating, weakness, cold, pale and clammy skin, weak pulse, fainting and vomiting - should seek help immediately and call 911 if needed.
