Looking for Opinions on configuring openbox with Slackware Please

Hi Folks,
Kinda wanted to pick the Slackware openbox users' brains (I am assuming there are some) for their opinions on how to best configure Slackware with openbox.
I've been playing around with Slackware for the last couple of months and really like it. I wanted to try a windows manager without a desktop environment and as a result am questioning why I should bother with a desktop environment of any kind.
I was mostly using XFCE before openbox and sometimes gnome on other distros.
Slackware and openbox seems a good mix so far. I'm using openbox with tint2, nitrogen, and xcompmgr, and menumaker on current. I've got some key-bindings to start apps too so starting anything is easy and quick. I was going to use plank or docky also but then I was wondering if others have any similar apps or features for openbox that they find useful/indispensable.
If you think using openbox is a dead end please tell me why? I'm starting to think that desktop environments are less efficient if you have a good "windows manager" setup and a bit of knowledge - which is what I want to get to with openbox.
Thanks
Have a great week-end!
