Startup Background Screen Reverts To Previous Option

I have Mint 20.1 (Cinnamon) installed, fully updated.
I entered Menu > Preferences > Backgrounds > Images, then selected Linux Mint Bookwood (2040 x 1148). I restarted my laptop and the Bookwood image splashed up - no problem. :D
I then selected another background image, Linux Mint Sele (3840 x 2160) and rebooted. This time, the Linux Mint Bookwood (2040 x 1148) image flashes onscreen, albeit briefly, followed by the Linux Mint Sele (3840 x 2160) image.
What happened? Is there any way to fix this annoyance without having to reinstall the OS?
I then installed the latest release (yippee), Linux Mint 20.2 (Cinnamon), as an update, but the issue persists.
I have made many, many tweaks to my Mint 20.1 (Cinnamon) installation and I really do not want to "reinvent the wheel" to get there.
Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a cure, short of having to reinstall the entire OS? :(
Thanks, guys.
