GRUB ERROR prevents Laptop use
by PercyX1 from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5MC2Z)
Turning age 78 in 2021, I decided to learn Linux. I took my old 2008 Acer Aspire 6920 laptop & had someone factory reset it.
With my HP Envy dv7 Windows 10 laptop (& U-Tube help) I made a bootable USB drive of Linux MINT 20.2 which booted & worked perfectly on the Acer - very happy. Eventually I installed the Linux on the Acer & all was good until I tried changing the screen settings. The screen went black & stayed black on rebooting without the USB. The USB still worked OK so I thought I would simply reinstall Mint from it. Dumb move - All I got was an error message ended with something about grub.
I removed the Acer HDD, put it in an HDD Enclosure and did a Format - then used Mini Partition Tool" to delete all partitions. This now showed a blank HDD which went back into the Acer.
Still any method of startup results with the screen showing
error: no such partition.
Entering rescue mode...
grub rescue>_
I am determined to teach myself Linux, & I'm sure there is a fix for this - just don't now it but suspect some other Acer on-board memory may need to be erased.
Any solution please. Thanks PercyX1
