hidden .lilo.conf.swp found while upgradeing the kernel
by quickbreakfast from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5MF1H)
Having been prompted to upgrade my kernel by the poll I noticed in this forum today went to edit the lilo.conf file, using vim, and was surprised to find
Code:E325: ATTENTION
Found a swap file by the name "/etc/.lilo.conf.swp"
owned by: root dated: Sat Mar 20 08:54:45 2021
file name: /etc/lilo.conf
modified: YES
user name: root host name: not
process ID: 32732
While opening file "/etc/lilo.conf"
dated: Sat Mar 20 09:08:31 2021
NEWER than swap file! at the top of the file.
I am using 14.2 and the new kernel is 4.4.276
This is the first time I have used vim as a file editor and don't know what it means.
So could someone please explain what the message means and how it affects my computer.
Also is it safe to remove the hidden file?
