Report: Oilers bring back Barrie on 3-year, $13.5M deal

The Edmonton Oilers are bringing back unrestricted free-agent defenseman Tyson Barrie on a three-year contract with an average annual value of $4.5 million, according to TSN's Ryan Rishaug.

Barrie signed a one-year, $3.75-million deal with the Oilers last offseason. He led all NHL defensemen with 48 points in the shortened 2020-21 season, quarterbacking Edmonton's elite power play alongside Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

The 30-year-old blue-liner notched 23 of his points on the man advantage and averaged over 21 minutes of ice time per contest.

Edmonton has been among the more active teams early this offseason. The club has already signed forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to a long-term extension, retained goaltender Mike Smith, traded for defenseman Duncan Keith, and reportedly added UFA forward Zach Hyman on a seven-year deal.
