‘We’re stressing so much,’ says brother of missing 14-year-old
Exactly one month after a 14-year-old boy went missing, Hamilton police say they're no closer to finding him.
His family members say they're scared and stressed. They want him to come home.
Yared Kidane was last seen early the morning of June 28 at his family's home near Queen Street North in central Hamilton.
On July 6, police put out a call on Twitter asking for the public's help finding Yared, who they say left home after an argument.
A month later, no one has heard from him. Det. Sgt. Dave Oleniuk said police have exhausted" all traditional means of searching for a missing person.
He's not been active on social media and hasn't been seen at the Victoria Park court where he's known to play pickup soccer. Police have even checked local farms - Yared previously spent time in the summer picking fruit. But they've had no luck.
It's concerning," Oleniuk said. It's been a month. And he's only 14."
Police are re-upping their call for the public's help in finding him. They plan to hold a news conference this week to broadcast that call more widely. Oleniuk noted police have no reason to believe anything criminal has happened or that Yared is experiencing a mental health crisis.
The hope is that more attention on his disappearance will encourage anyone who might be helping him to call police, or that it will compel Yared to contact his family, Oleniuk said.
Nobody's seen him. That's the scary thing," said Sirak Solomon, Yared's older brother, in a Wednesday call with The Spectator. Nobody's heard nothing."
Solomon said he and his mom are worried.
It's only the three of us," Solomon said. We're stressing so much, thinking about him."
Yared is described by his family and police as being five-foot-seven and having a shaved head. He was last seen wearing a grey jacket, black sweatpants and black Nike shoes.
His family has put up posters around Hamilton asking anyone with information to call them at 289-489-4733.
Police are asking those with information to call 905-546-4725.
