Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz won't undergo immediate surgery as he tries to recover from a foot injury, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Wentz will rest and rehab instead, and it's possible he'll be available for Week 1 on Sept. 12 if everything goes well, Rapoport notes.

The signal-caller is reportedly sidelined indefinitely due to a foot injury that involves a bone and a ligament. Wentz was set to visit a foot specialist as the team was bracing for the possibility of surgery.

The Pro Bowler joined the Colts this offseason after being traded from the Philadelphia Eagles. The 28-year-old, who's 35-32-1 as a starter since entering the NFL in 2016, has battled injuries throughout his career, including a torn ACL in 2017.

The Colts' quarterback depth chart also features second-year passer Jacob Eason, rookie Sam Ehlinger, and veteran Brett Hundley, who signed with the team Saturday.
