Hamilton police say a teenager has died following a shooting in a Stoney Creek plaza Friday evening.

The shooting occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 6 in the area of Paramount Drive and Mud Street West.

Acting Det. Sgt. Geoff Burbidge said police received multiple 911 calls" around 7:45 p.m.

Two suspects approached three individuals standing in a parking lot behind an Indian restaurant at 288 Mud Street West and fired several shots at them," police say.

Three individuals were victims of a targeted shooting," he told reporters on Saturday.

Three victims were taken to a local trauma hospital on Friday evening.

Police say a 17-year-old male was taken to hospital in critical condition and without vital signs, where he later died.

It is unclear how many gunshot wounds the teenager sustained.

The postmortem will take place tomorrow," he said.

A 35-year-old man sustained life-altering" injuries. Burbidge couldn't comment on what the injuries are.

It's still very early on in his treatment," he said.

A 25-year-old man was treated for injuries and released from hospital, police say.

Burbidge said the victims were family, but wouldn't specify their relationship.

Burbidge said they believe there are two suspects, described only as wearing dark clothing." Officers are currently canvassing the area for video and eyewitnesses.

Burbidge said police are not aware of exchange of gunfire between victims and suspects. He said it is unclear whether victims and suspects were known to each other.

Police say they do not know why the victims were in the plaza, and wouldn't comment on whether victims were known to police.

Police could be seen inspecting the wall behind the restaurant and a fence separating the plaza from an adjacent low-rise apartment building at approximately 10 p.m. on Friday.

Numerous shots were fired," he said. Forensic officers would be searching for any projectiles or any casings ... along that wall."

Hamilton police had a large scene cordoned off north of Mud Street West to Mistywood Drive and east of Paramount Drive. There were shoes, a hat and other items on the ground behind an Indian restaurant, which is where police said the shooting took place.

We did collect numerous pieces of evidence at the scene, and our forensic officers are going through what belongs to who ... and how it's all associated," he said.

The Hamilton police major crime unit continues to investigate. Expect a heavy police presence in the area over the weekend.

Police are asking witnesses and anyone with information to call Det. Frank De Vuono at 905-546-3827.
