Broncos' Lock, Bridgewater getting 1 start each to begin preseason
The Denver Broncos will give Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater one start apiece to begin the preseason as their quarterback battle continues, head coach Vic Fangio said Tuesday.
Lock will start the team's opener Saturday versus the Minnesota Vikings, while Bridgewater will get his turn one week later against the Seattle Seahawks. The two have been competing for the starting job throughout the offseason, and first-team reps have been split evenly during practice.
"I have confidence in both those guys, I really do," Fangio said, according to the Denver Post's Ryan O'Halloran and Kyle Newman.
Lock was the Broncos' full-time starter in 2020, but he logged 15 interceptions and only 16 touchdown passes. Bridgewater came to Denver in a trade from the Carolina Panthers after throwing 11 interceptions and 15 touchdowns last year.
The Broncos will play a third and final dress rehearsal to determine which signal-caller is set to lead the team Week 1 against the New York Giants. The NFL shortened the preseason from four games to three when it expanded the regular season from 16 games to 17.
