nano refuses its termination & its Process ID does not show up in htop

Hello better people,

I am having rather annoying issue with my Xubuntu OS:
Once upon time, and while adding an alias to the bottom of my .bashrc file, [I] was forced to terminate "nano" program abnormally via Xubuntu's default terminal (because it froze). then and upon editing the same file again with same editor, nano, to see if any issue appears - an issue did appear........

"File .bashrc is being edited (by Salam with nano 2.9.3, PID 6352); continue?"
below those words, however, three options were visibly/visually available: Yes , No , Cancel. "NO" was my option followed by "Ctrl + X" to exit the nano program.

So I went ahead and executed "htop" command to kill process 6352 - only to discover the PID in question does not exist. normally, closing all programs and reboot the OS should fix the issue. however, that did not fix the issue. so, I tried to shutdown the OS altogether; nothing good came from that.

Since My English is not best allow Me, please, to summarize:
nano program works fine, but NOT with .bashrc file in particular. rebooted and even powered off the computer; no change. same issue still exist.

Kindly: help Me. I will GREATLY appropriate it.

Your Chattel,
Salam M. Ahmed.
