sound control after upgrading to debian 11

Dear all,
After upgrading to debian 11, on thinkpad E15 G2, the volume and mute buttons in addition to the mic and the screen contrast buttons do not work at all, can any body direct me as to what can be done?
Is rebooting an option ?
