'Incompatible syntax 4 in /usr/share/alsa/ucm2/ucm.conf' ?

It's never done that before. ucm.conf is the same it has been for months. I don't understand the messages. The mixer doesn't work: I get sound, but no control over the volume. alsamixer has only one control, master.
