Bears' Jenkins undergoing back surgery
Chicago Bears offensive tackle Teven Jenkins will undergo back surgery, head coach Matt Nagy announced Wednesday.
Nagy added that he's hopeful the rookie tackle can come back at some point this campaign.
Chicago hopes Jenkins can return in November, but there's a chance his season is over, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The Bears traded up in the second round to select the former Oklahoma State lineman and envisioned him as the team's starting left tackle. However, Jenkins never practiced during training camp due to his lingering back issues.
Chicago already had a contingency plan ready, signing veteran tackle Jason Peters on Saturday. Nagy previously said the 39-year-old will compete for the starting left tackle job. Peters has started 203 games and made nine Pro Bowls over his career.
