Memorial ride for Max Kullaway August 29

Expert bike builder Max Kullaway passed away earlier this month after a long battle with cancer. Kullaway was the force behind 333fab bicycles. For years Max made bicycles in a Fremont shop alongside Bill Davidson before he and his spouse Tarrell (formerly a Cascade Bicycle Club staffer) moved to California. I highly recommend reading this 2012 interview in The Bicycle Story.
The morning after he passed away, the kid and I were listening to KEXP while biking to preschool, and the DJ read a long memorial note for Max. It was a reminder that a single life can touch so many others. We are sending our love to Tarrell and all Max's loved ones.
Seattle friends are hosting a ride August 29 in his memory. Details from the event page:
The best way we can celebrate the life and legacy of Max Kullaway is to all join together for a ride... and that's exactly what we're gonna do. Clear your calendar the evening of Sunday, August 29th as we gather for a social ride starting from Gas Works Park in Seattle.
We'll end the ride at Brouwer's in Fremont, please stay for a beer and a bite if you'd like. It'll be a great time to share stories of Max and celebrate the impact he's had on us and the community. Brouwer's are being incredibly generous and are closing early to the public for us, so be cool and be respectful.
// Bring your 333's!
Max has a lot of beautiful creations and we want to see them all. This will likely be the biggest collection of 333fab's ever assembled so if you have one, be sure to ride it.
// The route
The route will be simple, flat and socially paced. Starting from Lake View Point just South of the old refinery in Gas Works Park, we'll head West on a combination of roads and trail to Golden Gardens. From there we'll turn around and head back to Brouwer's.
// The schedule:
- 4:30pm / Meet at Gas Works Park at the Lake View Point just South of the old refinery.
- 4:45pm / Start social-paced roll West towards Golden Gardens
- 6:00pm / Meet back at Brouwer's for food, drink and memories
- 7:30pm / Last call for the kitchen at Brouwer's
We are going to hold to this schedule as best we can to ensure we are respectful of the generosity of Brouwer's staying open later for us. If you miss the start you can just head out West on the Burke Gilman and catch on.
// Brouwer's details:
- Be vaccinated and bring masks, please. Brouwer's is requiring masks regardless of vaccination status for anyone not seated at their table.
- Bring a lock! If you are joining us at Brouwer's be sure to bring a lock so you can park your bike outside securely. There's only one bike rack out front, so prepare to lock up to a friend.
- Brouwer's is a 21+ establishment, while minors are more than welcome to join us on the ride they unfortunately can't join inside Brouwer's .
- We'll be showing up all at once, and service could take a while, be patient, be kind, be generous, be like Max.
