Can't get Lightdm autologin working (Debian 11 + MATE)
by TheJooomes from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5NHZ3)
I set autologin-user and autologin-user-timout to what I want in /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf, which didn't do anything. I then found out there's a package called lightdm-autologin-greeter. I installed it and it broke lightdm.
Lightdm would get stuck at a black screen. When switching to another TTY, it would send me back to the broken lightdm every 10-15 seconds or so, so I'd have to constantly be switching back to the TTY I was using.
I finally managed to purge lightdm-autologin-greeter from my system and revert the changes in lightdm.conf which restored a working lightdm.
I want lightdm to simply login to MATE without asking for login info. What do I need to do?
