Burlington woman, 60, charged with drunk driving in Oakville hit-and-run crash that leaves cyclist with 'head trauma'
Halton Regional Police have charged a 60-year-old Burlington woman with drunk driving and hit-and-run offences in a crash that has left an Oakville cyclist hospitalized.
The incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 19) as Halton police were notified of a serious crash on Lakeshore Road West in the area of Strathcona Avenue in Oakville.
A Jeep sport utility vehicle had struck a 42-year-old man riding his bike and the vehicle failed to remain at the scene, police said.
The cyclist was taken to Hamilton General Hospital for "head trauma," police said.
Police spoke with a witness and later arrested a 60-year-old Burlington woman. The injuries to the cyclist are considered serious but non-life threatening, police said.
The woman is charged with failing to stop at the scene of a crash causing bodily harm, impaired driving and excess blood alcohol.
