The creator of the delightfully twisted superhero show The Boys" referenced a scene shot in Stoney Creek when he was commenting on his show being honoured with an Outstanding Drama series nomination in the Emmy Awards.

The Boys" is one of four shows filmed in Hamilton that have received nominations for the 73rd annual Emmy Awards, which will be handed out Sept. 19 on CTV/CBS.

The other shows are The Handmaid's Tale," The Umbrella Academy" and The Queen's Gambit." The shows were also filmed in such other communities as Toronto, Cambridge and Brantford.

The Boys" is shooting its third season in Hamilton and the Greater Toronto Area. The Amazon Prime show has filmed at the Scottish Rite (where the show's Church of the Collective is located), the former King George elementary school, Cargo Jet at the Hamilton airport, downtown Hamilton and downtown Brantford.

The second season featured an episode filmed in 2019 at Fifty Point Conservation Area in Stoney Creek where The Boys" - a vigilante group out to expose the corruption of the Seven superheroes - slice into a whale put in their way by a Seven nemesis as they drive a powerboat into the beach.

What are the Emmy voters thinking?" Eric Kripke, creator and executive producer of The Boys" told Entertainment Weekly. It hasn't sunk in at all. They voted for exploding whales and exploding heads. Don't get me wrong. I'm grateful, but what are the Emmy voters thinking?"

We're not usually the type of show that gets that kind of recognition."

The Boys" has been nominated for five Emmy awards, including Outstanding Drama for a Drama Series and Special Visual Effects.

The Handmaid's Tale" has received 21 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama (Elisabeth Moss), Outstanding Production Design and Outstanding Music for a Series. Apart from Moss, 10 of its actors have been nominated for awards. It filmed its fourth season in the area at such places as the Dundas Valley Conservation Area, Durand Park and downtown Brantford.

The Handmaid's Tale" won Outstanding Drama in 2017 and was nominated in 2018 and 2019.

The Umbrella Academy" has received four technical awards. It has been nominated for awards in cinematography, special effects costumes and sound editing. It is filming its third season and has shot in Gore Park, King William Street and at 54 King St. E. - the locale in the show for The Umbrella Academy.

The Queen's Gambit" has received 18 nominations. It has been nominated for such things as Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, Outstanding Writing, Outstanding Production Design and Outstanding Period Costumes. It filmed a scene on King Street East in the International Business Village.

If the TV show Ruby and the Well" proves a hit for Toronto-based Shaftesbury, a home in Mineral Springs might prove a popular spot for fans to want to try and visit like The Good Witch" house in Dundas. The fantasy show about a young girl trying to fulfil wishes from a well - and save the family farm - was back in the Ancaster hamlet for filming this month. It is the third time the production has been to the property. It set up a base camp at the Copetown Community Centre.

Another Christmas movie was shooting in the area. A Christmas Melody" filmed at the American House Tavern in Waterdown last month. It follows Say Yes to Christmas" which filmed in Dundas, Ancaster and at Dundurn Castle. The latter film is destined for the Hallmark Channel.

The Resident Evil" reboot has announced the name for the upcoming movie. It will be called Welcome to Raccoon City."

Some scenes were filmed in Hamilton last year. Look for Victoria Avenue North, Beach Road and the Scottish Rite.
