Fonts in LibreOffice 7.1
by CVAlkan from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5NR2C)
I'm using Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon and LibreOffice 7.1.4.2, though my question really isn't specific to either of them or restricted to that combination.
Mint stores its system fonts in /usr/share/fonts/truetype
LibreOffice installs its fonts to /opt/libreoffice7.1/share/fonts/truetype
As an example of what I'm asking, the DejaVuSans-Bold.ttf font (along with quite a few others) appears in both directories.
Does anyone know how LibreOffice chooses which of these to use? In many cases it likely makes no difference, but sometimes the identically named .ttf files have different dates and/or sizes, which could potentially cause issues. Searching through multiple locations doesn't seem to have much of an impact in the "real world" but is there any other advantage to removing an LO duplicate?
I presume that LibreOffice installs its own set just to make sure that all potential characters will be available and that a known collection of styles, languages, etc. will be available. Since most duplicated fonts I've checked have identical sizes, and would seem to provide the same characters, why would such duplicates be installed in the first place?
Not important in the grand scheme of things, but if anyone has insights, I'd love to hear them.
Thanks, and stay safe...
