virt-manager won't recognise my bootable install media

I've tried presenting a windows install image in five forms.

1. the *.iso file
2. mount the *.iso loopback and point to the directory
3. point to /dev/sdb1 on a verified/used bootable thumb drive
4. the mount directory of the thumb drive
