Colts activate Wentz, Kelly, Pascal off COVID-19 list
The Indianapolis Colts activated quarterback Carson Wentz, center Ryan Kelly, and wide receiver Zach Pascal off the COVID-19 list, the club announced Thursday.
All three players were reportedly deemed close contacts of a staffer who tested positive, resulting in their placement on the reserve group.
Wentz has been working toward being ready for the Colts' regular-season opener after undergoing foot surgery last month. He returned to practice toward the end of August and was slated to fully participate in team drills this week before ending up on the COVID-19 list.
The 28-year-old was acquired in a trade this offseason following a difficult 2020 with the Philadelphia Eagles. Wentz completed a career-low 57.4% of his passes and tossed 15 interceptions last season.
Additionally, the Colts placed Sam Ehlinger and T.Y. Hilton on injured reserve. Hilton underwent surgery to address a neck injury and will miss at least three weeks, general manager Chris Ballard said Wednesday. Meanwhile, Ehlinger is reportedly set to miss five-to-six weeks after spraining his knee in the final preseason game.
The Colts will open their season at home against the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 12.
