MX Linux to Linux Mint / Mate via Home Network frustrations :(
by LinWinux from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5PCAP)
Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue that has me completely stumped (long read sorry). In the past my wife (Mint with XFCE) and I (MX Linux) never had a problem connecting our machines over our home network via LAN connections (we don't use wlan at all in the house). My wife prefers to pull in everything Caja related and uses the Caja file manager on her Mint XFCE setup to connect to our media machine in the livingroom (Linux Mint with Mate).
No problem before, no problem now. Everything is fine.
Our Android 10 TV box upstairs also connects to the Livingroom machine without a problem.
But my own machine with MX Linux and Thunar file manager ... as well as Caja wich I pulled in separately ... will no longer connect to the Media machine in the livingroom. During the past 5 years this was never an issue before.
We've never used Samba or shared folders since Caja and Thunar never had issues connecting with the livingroom machine before, so there was no need to try anything else. All of the machines have the newest versions with all updates. When I try to connect to the media machine in the livingroom, I receive either "server timed-out" errors when I use Thunar, or I receive "Connection refused by Server" when I try connecting to our media machine with Caja.
I am totally baffled & frustrated. :banghead:
The only thing that has changed, is the fact that the livingroom received a new machine during the past 7 days. Before there used to by MX Linux on it, but now there's a brand new Mint / Mate on it because the bios refused to allow the installation of my MX Live Boot (yes, I'm aware of all of potential UEFI / EFI / AHCI settigns issues). So I was forced to install Windows 10 H2, followed by installing dual-boot Mint with Mate (which also has the Caja file manager by default).
But I don't see how the new Mint OS with Windows 10 might have anything to do with my connection issues, since my wife's computer as well as the Android 10 TV box have no problem at all, connecting to the Media machine in the livingroom. Works the same as before without any problems.
It's only my Mx Linux machine which can't seem to connect anymore ???
To my knowledge, everything SSH related is installed on my system.
Thanks in advance for any help.
