The Houston Texans ruled out quarterback Deshaun Watson for Week 1, citing non-injury reasons on the injury report.

The Texans previously named Tyrod Taylor their opening-day starter and are reportedly prepared to make Watson a healthy scratch throughout the season.

Watson is facing lawsuits from 22 women who say he sexually assaulted them or committed sexual misconduct during massage sessions. Ten women have also filed criminal complaints against him. Watson requested a trade at the beginning of the offseason, but Houston's high asking price combined with the off-field matters have complicated talks with other teams.

The 25-year-old led the NFL with 4,823 passing yards last season and threw a career-high 33 touchdowns. He didn't play in the 2021 preseason, nor has he been active in practice sessions, though he has attended team meetings.

The Texans kick off their 2021 campaign Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
