Washington Football Team quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick suffered a right hip injury in the second quarter of Sunday's 20-16 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers and didn't return to the game.

It's believed Fitzpatrick sustained a hip subluxation, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. He'll reportedly have an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the ailment.

The veteran passer sustained the injury when he took a hit from Chargers linebacker Uchenna Nwosu.

Fitzpatrick was taken to the locker room, while backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke stepped in with Washington trailing 10-6 with nine minutes to play in the first half. Heinicke finished the afternoon with 122 yards and one touchdown on 11-of-15 passing. He also rushed three times for 17 yards.

"I talked to him at halftime. He's in good spirits. Obviously not real sure what it is yet, but hoping for the best for him," Washington tight end Logan Thomas said postgame.

Fitzpatrick was making his first start for Washington after signing a one-year, $10-million deal in the offseason. The 38-year-old journeyman was 3-for-6 for 13 yards before suffering the injury.

Heinicke, 28, re-signed on a two-year, $4.75-million deal after starting a wild-card game for Washington last season.
