The Denver Broncos placed cornerback Ronald Darby on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury, the club announced Tuesday.

Denver also placed Jerry Jeudy on injured reserve. It was reported Monday that the wideout may miss four-to-six weeks with a high ankle sprain.

Darby will miss at least the next three games while on injured reserve, at which point he will be considered week-to-week, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. He suffered the injury on the last series of the Broncos' Week 1 game against the New York Giants, according to Mike Klis of 9 News.

The Broncos signed Darby to a three-year, $30-million contract in the offseason. The 27-year-old started all 16 games for the first time in his career last season with the Washington Football Team.

Rookie cornerback Patrick Surtain II is expected to take Darby's place in the starting lineup while the veteran is sidelined. A top-10 pick in the 2021 draft, Surtain played just 26% of the Broncos' defensive snaps during his NFL debut in Week 1.
