Denver Broncos edge rusher Bradley Chubb will undergo arthroscopic surgery Wednesday to remove a bone spur in his left ankle, the team announced.

The Broncos won't have a timetable for Chubb's return until after the procedure. However, the club is hopeful the defender will return this season, a source told The Denver Post's Ryan O'Halloran.

Chubb underwent offseason surgery on his right ankle. He was expected to be ready for Week 1, but a problem with his other ankle after the preseason finale forced him to sit out the opener. He returned for the following contest but missed the second half after aggravating the bothersome ankle.

"I really couldn't go out there and do everything I wanted to do," Chubb said. "That's going to eat at me the most, knowing I couldn't help my team the way I wanted to help my team. But I know these guys are going to do everything they can to make that playoff push, and I'm going to be right there with them."

Chubb, who's in his fourth season, had 7.5 sacks last season in his return from a torn ACL. He had 12 sacks as a rookie in 2018, teaming up with Von Miller to give the Broncos a vaunted edge presence. The two have hardly played together since then due to injuries to both stars.

"Just going through the ACL a couple years ago and then the offseason surgery on my other ankle, it gets frustrating because I feel like I'm doing everything I can," Chubb said. "I feel like I'm doing everything I can. But one thing my mom and dad told me is just (to) keep that faith in God, keep trusting in God, because he doesn't make mistakes. He does all this stuff for a reason. The reason might not be known now, but it's way bigger than I'll ever imagine."

The Broncos are one of seven teams in the NFL that are off to a 2-0 start in 2021.
