Hamilton Mountain townhouse fire causes $350,000 in damage
A townhouse on the Hamilton Mountain was severely damaged in a multiple-alarm blaze Wednesday night.
In a press release, Hamilton Fire Department Chief Dave Cunliffe said just after 9:20 p.m. emergency services were called to a structure fire at 55 Towercrest Dr., near Upper Wellington Street and Colin Crescent.
Cunliffe said the first crews arriving at the scene reported a well-involved" blaze with heavy flames" visible on the second floor of a three-storey, midblock townhouse unit. The home had been evacuated by the time crews arrived, he added.
The fire was quickly upgraded to a multiple-alarm call and additional trucks were dispatched from across the city.
Cunliffe said crews initiated an aggressive interior" attack on the fire, which was quickly brought under control. The blaze was contained to the unit, but not before it sustained significant fire and smoke damage" on all floors, he added.
No injuries were reported in the fire, said Cunliffe.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. In an email to The Spectator, assistant deputy chief Ryan Coburn said the blaze caused an estimated $350,000 in damages.
