XFCE power manager broken: suspend and shutdown do not work

I am running a fairly new install of MX 19.4 Patito Feo, but the XFCE power manager has recently (like four days ago) started behaving strangely.

- Attempting to suspend the computer brings up a black screen for about ten seconds; then, the login screen appears. Logging in and trying again produces the same results.
- If I try Code:sudo pm-suspend, the terminal idles for about a minute before returning me to the prompt without suspending.
- Attempting to shut the computer down works at first, but the final loading bar freezes partway through the shutdown sequence.

I must add that this is generally what happens. There have been a few instances, especially at the beginning, where suspending actually worked. However, they were so erratic as to be nearly at random. The pattern which I explained above is most common.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=Okn4BjqQHcE:eVbu-nsDi_M:F7zBnMy latest?i=Okn4BjqQHcE:eVbu-nsDi_M:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=Okn4BjqQHcE:eVbu-nsDi_M:gIN9vFwOkn4BjqQHcE
