Debian 10 will not boot out of grub after RAM upgrade
by beaf_yeah from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5Q2D9)
Hi everyone,
I recently got two 4GB memory sticks for my computer, which already has 2 4GB sticks. When I boot up with all four sticks in, I boot into grub, and then when I try to boot the actual OS it crashes and says I have a kernel failure.
However, when I use three of the sticks, it works perfectly fine. This works when using both of the new sticks and one of the old, as well as vice-versa. I might have used every combination except probably one at a time.
I have tried reinstalling, that doesn't seem to have done much, I have tried using the memtest86+ thing with 16GB, and while I'm not too sure how it works, it displayed 16GB and the test bar filled consistently for about a half hour until I exited.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here's the hardware on my computer:
G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) (I bought 2 before and 2 later)
ASUS TUF B450-Plus Gaming
Ryzen 5 3600
GeForce GTX 1050 ti
Let me know if there's anything else I should mention. Thanks! :)
Edit: I ran the memtest86+ again and it seems like it went through everything without a hitch and started looping. I wasn't paying close attention so this is just how I guess it works.
