Desktop freeze
by ychaouche from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5Q4QJ)
Dear LQ,
I have no idea why but my desktop freezes from time to time and I don't know where
I can look for clues about the cause of it. Any pointers ?
Freeze :
- no response from mouse or keyboard (even CAPS and NUMLOCK leds)
- no response from magic keys (Alt+SysReq+k)
- sometimes sound from vlc keeps playing, sometimes it loops like an old scratched audio CD
- only way to stop the system seems to be a hard power off (pressing the power button for
a prolonged time)
for example, last freeze was at 14:08:13 (clock on the desktop), but no lines with
this timestamp (or close to it) in syslog and kernel.log.
