Reid: It'll 'take a while' before Gordon's debut with Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid doesn't expect Josh Gordon to play against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4 after the pass-catcher signed with the team earlier this week.

"It's going to take a while,'' Reid said, according to ESPN's Adam Teicher. "He's probably not going to play this week. We'll just see how it goes over the next week or two."

Gordon, who joined the Chiefs' practice squad Monday, hasn't played in an NFL game since 2019. Kansas City will reportedly elevate him from the practice squad once his conditioning and understanding of the playbook have advanced to an adequate level.

The Pro Bowler exploded onto the scene in 2013, leading the league with 1,646 receiving yards. He's since struggled to stay on the field while receiving six suspensions.

The Chiefs are hopeful that Gordon's large stature adds another dimension to a receiving group that features the likes of speedy wideout Tyreek Hill and Mecole Hardman.

"He's a big receiver," Patrick Mahomes said. "Even if he's covered, he's not covered. You can kind of throw it up there and he can make plays.''

The Chiefs' high-powered offense has produced over 395 yards in each of their three games this season, with Travis Kelce (289), Hill (267), and Hardman (107) all totaling 100-plus yards through the air.
